Introducing: Jinmo
Now with English subtitles.
Digital Film, Yes Yes Yes!
Wouldn’t it be like a dream came true, 35mm full frame digital sensor that could go inside Bessa or Leica M6? With today’s technology should be doable.

New Tsunami Video
It’s pretty shocking.
http://www.redflagnews.com/headlines/shocking-new-japan-tsunami-video-found-released
As far as I know this video seem real and taken by low-end camcorder. It’s first time to see the 3/11 tsunami in Japan from such close-hand human perspective. It’s like war.
What surprised me most however was the mood and colour of the sky. It seems so real. I remember how that day felt. I was here in Yokohama in safe distance from tsunami, but the tremors were felt strong here too, and all cellphone networks were down. It took twelve hours to get in reach with my wife.
Anyhow, people should see this since it’s reality.
Flickr got Refresh
Wow, so Flickr got refresh. It’s funny since I was just thinking about it.
I generally like the update from the visual sense; especially the default way of viewing photo streams. It just looks much better now that images are arranged into a kind of nice, beautiful layout. The Terabyte thing doesn’t really matter to me since I don’t think I’ll ever upload that many photos and I have pro account anyway which doesn’t have the upload limit.
Overall, I’m really glad about the refresh and the cover photo is nice little touch. See my flickr here.
My Kind of Image
You know the word “utsukushii” 美しい , in Japanese. The word is composed of Chinese letter that has a component of sheep.
I love this word. It’s as lovely and big as music of Vangelis, it’s innocent and pure like a white sheep lying down on green meadow. It is a word I want to use to describe women, the wonderful creatures who live on this planet despite it’s horrors.
I have always believed in feminine aspect of humans, even men are kind of women, you know, kind of like ocean. Like Björk would sing in her song Mutual Core, perhaps the planet itself is feminine, trying to manage the tectonic plates to counteract distance..
Our beautiful, beautiful, feminine planet..
Yes, I think Japan needs more mature imagery of femininity; and I predict that advertising machine in Japan is going to change to reflect the need. I think I’m speaking for everyone if I say; we are crying and dying for something more spiritual. The need is there and it’s huge.
I would like to be there when the change happens.
Substance, Wanted
The bird asks the frog,
what do you know about flying,
about the way how wind can hurt?
This is for the toad that we remember,
when our webbed feet bleed
for the person who locked his door
with his empty words in North Point
For the hope that exists in the world of no hope,
I say no more
until my son meets his frog
Baghdad
I have uploaded my short story Baghdad. Please download it for free. (pdf) (eBook).
I wrote this in 2006 and it’s based on a dream I saw. Now that I read it, I think it somehow summarizes my feeling what I had about the decade. Invasion war repeated once again, dictator in Middle East fell and the cowboy told his lies to the world.
I had shivers while typing my Macbook’s keyboard in my empty apartment in middle of the night. I had fever, but I couldn’t stop writing. The dream felt so vivid. The main body of the story came out in couple of hours. I sent the original manuscript to Random House and much to my surprise, received reply from the chief editor Mr.Rowley. According to him the story could have been published if my English writing would have “flown more”.
My short story received two passes of edits and this, what will the last version of the story, is quite readable in my opinion.
Please feel free to download and read the story and send me the comments. I’d love to hear them.
Yours,
Jaakko
