Weekend of Photos

I enjoyed taking photos of my friends during the weekend. I felt there was no need to explain much by words. I was just there.

Then, this invisible communication made me feel warm.

Araki said once that photography needs femininity. I don’t think he meant that we need to take photos of women, but we should take photos having woman’s mind.

Session with Beautiful Kayo

I had great chance to have a little photo session with my friend and fellow cameraman Kayo. She turned out to be such a cute model with great intuition. Perhaps her intuition for being model came from her own experience as a photographer.

This image turned out to be the winner of yesterday’s shoot; there’s something that just turned right about this photo.

I used off-camera speedlite to add a bit of illumination to the subject with TTL turned off and manually dialing down the power of the flash so that it doesn’t overpower the ambient light which was already good to start. I removed flash spots from her eyes in Photoshop as they were a bit distracting from that angle.

I learned that in this situation, a bit off-camera flash can actually help to raise the overall exposure a bit, and remove some of the darker shades of the face which often result when shooting in outdoor shade. I always bring either flash or reflector as it can really help to add bit of necessary light to the subject.

The bird asks the frog,

what do you know about flying,

about the way how wind can hurt?

This is for the toad that we remember,

when our webbed feet bleed

for the person who locked his door

with his empty words in North Point

For the hope that exists in the world of no hope,

I say no more

until my son meets his frog

My Favorite

I went to Eroguranmasse exhibition last summer in Yokohama. My friend was one of the photographers who arranged it, and also featured his own work in the exhibition. The exhibition, as the name suggests, was very cross-artistic and bohemian, with erotic theme.

My music Magical Forest was used as a background music for the exhibition, so I felt some strange , personal feeling. In fact, I was a bit startled.

Generally I liked all of the pictures and artworks, but one piece caught my eye especially. A photo framed in black.

Although the photo portrays a dead woman, and is rather believable, she seems so alive too, I remember thinking. “Intertesting..” I said to myself and went on to see other works, while my very own “Fish Hospital” played from the speakers, the piece music I had performed live in Monzennakacho year before.

After returning to see the photo (twice) I decided to buy it.

It was later revealed to me that the picture was taken by iPhone and that the woman in the photo was the artist herself. I had pleasure to meet her after the exhibition and it was very delightful to see her alive face. She proved to be witty and funny person.

I think it wouldn’t do justice of the photo if I show it here, instead I will show what is written behind the picture (after I bought it). This photo is still hanged in my office and will be unlikely replaced any time soon.

I will ask the Riesan if there is some way to see her work online. Will link.
