Exile

Recently I have been very moved about Jinmo’s music, and it helped me to reach into those feelings deep inside myself. So I thought to record my face while listening his album “Eden”, and then those feelings just came. It’s so beautiful that it hurts. So then I thought maybe my face can convey that feeling.

I was adopted when I was two years old, and I had to say goodbye to my grandma and all of my biological relatives. Adoption means actually to adapt. You just have to accept it. That’s extremely hard for two years old boy.

But these days I actually feel I’m kind of embraced by the world. So my feeling has changed, but that’s only just recently.

Then, it was great to visit Whole Creation today after a long time and I had chance to record beautiful voice of Kagaya. I love you guys, you’re so cool! 🙂

Poem

I am a child of two mothers,
a child of two continents

My elliptical path,
My seasonal shift

I circle alone,
together

The hope,
that exists in the world of no hope

I greet you,
my fellow satellite

Ideas for Self Portraits

Taking self portrait is interesting. It takes usually plenty of shots until you can really get into that magical zone when things start to come. In first photos you are always nervous, but the tension is released when you keep pressing the shutter.

I took this image using a self made rig of tripod and monopod. My Fujifilm X100 is light enough to be propped this way, and it just works great.

Digital cameras nowadays really have the advantage of using high ISOs with very little noise, so usually you really don’t need to use flash unless the subject is moving fast.

Remember to have fun and experiment. That’s what photography is all about.

PS. The title of this photo is “Shrimp Dreamer”. My pose in this photo is actually a yoga pose “shrimp” which was taught by my yoga teacher.

My Favorite

I went to Eroguranmasse exhibition last summer in Yokohama. My friend was one of the photographers who arranged it, and also featured his own work in the exhibition. The exhibition, as the name suggests, was very cross-artistic and bohemian, with erotic theme.

My music Magical Forest was used as a background music for the exhibition, so I felt some strange , personal feeling. In fact, I was a bit startled.

Generally I liked all of the pictures and artworks, but one piece caught my eye especially. A photo framed in black.

Although the photo portrays a dead woman, and is rather believable, she seems so alive too, I remember thinking. “Intertesting..” I said to myself and went on to see other works, while my very own “Fish Hospital” played from the speakers, the piece music I had performed live in Monzennakacho year before.

After returning to see the photo (twice) I decided to buy it.

It was later revealed to me that the picture was taken by iPhone and that the woman in the photo was the artist herself. I had pleasure to meet her after the exhibition and it was very delightful to see her alive face. She proved to be witty and funny person.

I think it wouldn’t do justice of the photo if I show it here, instead I will show what is written behind the picture (after I bought it). This photo is still hanged in my office and will be unlikely replaced any time soon.

I will ask the Riesan if there is some way to see her work online. Will link.
