Exhibition Schedule Changed

My exhibition schedule has been changed. I’m sorry for the inconvenience. My son caught a cold and he needs my care.

I want to say big thanks for Ehrismann staff for their kindness and understanding.

The exhibition starts this Sunday (7日) and lasts until Thursday (11日).

I am really excited!

Healing Island Book

I am glad to announce that my photo book “Healing Island” will be ready next week! It’s been almost two years since I took these photos in this very special sacred island, Jeju. I guess now I finally got the distance necessary to edit and finally finish this work.

This book is pocket sized, and there’s about 72 pages (if you calculate pages as if in a book) and the book contains both monochrome and color photos. Color images are both digital and film (Ektar 100), all monochrome images are shot on film (TMAX400).

I will ship the book worldwide and price is modest 1500円, or about 15 eur/usd plust postage. Please contact me if you want this book.

New items will appear in “Shop” section of Hiyayaakko. Please check it out.

Tatsuo Suzuki

I am big fan of Tatsuo Suzuki. His photos are really honest, confronting but in a very proper way. He is one of the rare, huge talents in Japanese street photography scene.

I wonder what he shoots with. Looks like maybe tri-x.

Definably check him out in flickr:

Depression

Depression in my case cannot maybe be helped. How many times I have said I will quit taking photo, music or movie? After a little time pass, I will always take my camera again. I couldn’t stop it after all.
What comes to my identity, I realize I am “cameraman”. It is who I am, honestly. This is unlikely to change anytime soon. The process of making work with human value is always painful in my case. You kind of show yourself naked to the world. And the wind always hurts! There’s no escape, no secret safe room where you could withdraw and look at your frames.
I can’t understand how my wife can bear to live with a person like me. Or then, she must be an angel

Eric Kim in Facebook

I love Eric Kim’s FB posts. He always gets these obnoxious comments which make it seem like few of his fans actually understand what he means, although he is being so clear.

It’s great to see a talented photographer who isn’t ruined by social media fame.

In fact he said in his FB post the other day that FB likes are hardly any indicator of the quality of the photos. I tend to agree.

Make a real photo book

Eric Kim made excellent remark recently regarding Flickr.
“Will your Flickr account be there after you die?”

It might, for a while. But not for long. And seeing how it’s going recently for the site in question, I wouldn’t be so sure that the entire site will be there for that long.

I agree with Eric, any serious photographer should at least publish one real, physical photo book. It’s a different kind of process, and it must be so satisfying to see your images to take physical form.

Real photo books have special appeal to me. I love them. I even want to sleep with them. They even have special smell to them.

I recommend you to try. There are great places to do that with a limited cost.

Lizard Point Supplement Data

I added some of the photos from the original Lizard Point negatives from March 2013. These did not make it to the five photos I exhibited in Bar Sara, but I think they have some value which might help you to understand the work process.

Although the ripped dress was supposed to be the main theme, the happy accident with black cloth was so nice that I decided to go with those photos for the exhibition. Now that I think of it it seems to be the right idea.

However the ripped clothes do support the idea.. so here they are. I hope you enjoy them.
